I know why they are there, they make the web more beautiful, they are pretty to look at, and they are a good indicator of an action being executed.

But I hate how they are abused to hide content behind mind-numbingly slow sliders. Why do I have to wait half a second for each tiny chunk of information?

In my opinion, If you want to implement sliders on your website, then make them fast. Better yet, don't include them at all.
